Our New Jobs

Harvest season is something I had never imagined. I truly had no idea of the life of a farmer and how much impact they have of the lives of each and every single one of us. On the farm we are harvesting wheat, barely, canola and chickpeas. There are a total of 4 farms with 5,500 acres, Cooleearlee, Braylee, Carnham, and Gwydir.

The job itself is quite simple, at least for the chaser bin driver which is what my role is. There are 3 steps in successfully owning the role of the chaser bin driver being 1. waiting until the harvester is full 2. driving beside harvester so it can unload and 3. emptying chaser bin to a field bin. The majority of my day is spent waiting and trying to find interesting things to do in my cab. The hardest part is keeping myself awake as we have done up to 17 hr days, and 7 days in a row. The exciting part is when I do actually get to drive the tractor - a very fun opportunity to bounce up and down.
