Today we took a Sunday drive on some country roads to visit Guide Falls and Preston Falls. Somehow we ended up on an alpaca farm as well. There are crazy things I had no idea about alpacas. Here they are used as a resource of wool, they are sheared just like sheep. The only reason why their wool is not as common is because it takes 2 ppl to shear an alpaca (poor thing literally gets tied down to the ground) and only 1 person to shear a sheep. As well, the female alpaca has a longer pregnancy so they are not born as frequently as sheep, making the wool more dear. You can get about 20 different colours of wool from alpacas giving a lot of options when knitting. Alpaca is also sold to eat, like lamb. Alpacas are part of the camel family, and also spit like camels. So, now you know all about alpacas!
