Longest Day of Summer or Shortest Day of Winter?

Crazy thought for you, the longest day of the Canadian year is the shortest day of the Australian year. This proves my point of why I try to tell ppl here that the Canadian season change makes more sense than the Aus one. The summer solstice helps make my point! In Canada our seasons change roughly on the 20th-22nd every 4 months. In Aus, the seasons change on the 1st of these months. Makes it easy to remember, but how can the longest or shortest day not be the first day of summer or winter? Following the summer solstice seems like the right way to go.

I'd also like to point out that for the first time ever my BFF can't say to me, "My birthday is the longest day of the year!" Because here in my world, it's not. Shout out to my BFF on her birthday, Happy birthday Julie!!!:)
