Job 1: Cutting Caulies

I finally found a job after almost 2 weeks of searching! I guess I really didn't have to wait that long. I have decided to say yes to the agricultural work and no to what could have been a great hospitality experience. I think coming to Aus and not working in the agricultural industry wouldn't be as much of a different experience anyway. I've been hired by a Labour Hire company who puts empolyees on all sorts of jobs. My first one, cutting caulifowers!

The absolute hardest manual labour I have ever done in my life. Today I struggled with back and wrist pain but still seemed to keep up with my group of 6. I worked with another girl up front of the tractor, where I was nearly run over 3 times! I use a really big sharp knife to 'pop' the cauliflower up from the massive leaved plant. I'd say I picked about 500 today! That's bending-cutting-throwing 500 times. I learnt a bit about how snails, slugs, and the sun can damage a caulie. After the caulies are cut they go to a packaging factory where they are washed, cut into tiny pieces, and put into frozen veggie bags. Met some interesting ppl, I can already tell this industry will bring in some tough blokes!
